Parenting comes in many different styles in Hollywood. Some celebrities provide lavish trips and designer clothing to their offspring, while others choose not to pass down their privilege and luxurious lifestyles to future generations.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher strictly enforce no-gift rules with their children, even on Christmas. Jennifer Garner doesn’t permit junk food consumption at her house, while Jason Momoa doesn’t allow his young ones to watch his early acting work, particularly “Game of Thrones”. Gabrielle Union admitted in an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that she is an overbearing “helicopter parent”, adding she may even be a psychotic mother for their four kids; Gwyneth Paltrow only permits her children to watch shows that feature French or Spanish content!
Though some parenting styles might appear unusual to others, celebrity mothers and fathers remain committed to what they feel will best benefit their kids. Check out some of Hollywood’s strictest parents!
Cardi B and Offset
Cardi B follows her mom’s parenting advice when it comes to parenthood. In 2018, Cardi revealed to W Magazine that her mother was very strict when it came to sleepovers, though Cardi admitted breaking that rule by missing school for parties instead of sleeping over.
“My mom tried to stop me, but I still did it. I joined a gang,” noted the rapper, adding, “Had she allowed me out as often as I desired, it is likely I would be dead or have had my face cut up – or worse still, become pregnant at an earlier age than expected.
Now Cardi is applying this strict rule to her children as well. The “Bodak Yellow” singer announced she forbids their sleepovers too and stated, “I’m very strict… you can have whatever you want but just can’t do whatever you want,” as an explanation for it all. However, her children still live lavishly despite Cardi admitting to spoiling them; Offset and Cardi are proud parents to daughter Kulture and son Wave, respectively.
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have earned praise for their parenting styles. In an interview with Self in 2020, Kristen revealed she wanted her daughters to share bedrooms from an early age; “Frozen” star believes this experience should come early for their girls if need be. Bell noted: “If that is all it means in your life that sharing a bedroom with your sister can only ever bring, that should not be any big issue at all!” This is just another way Kristen tries to provide normality within her family unit.
Bell has always advocated free-range parenting. In an interview with Today, she stressed the significance of giving children greater independence and freedom: “I think there should be more risks taken by kids within reason; that way we build so many survival skills.”
Kourtney Kardashian
Kourtney Kardashian has made headlines for her parenting rules when it comes to protecting the health of her children, specifically avoiding microwaves in 2017. According to People magazine’s reports from 2017, she steers clear of using one in the kitchen – “one kitchen appliance I never use is the microwave. If anything needs warming up quickly, then instead I prefer an oven, stovetop, or toaster oven.”
Kardashian expressed concern over how microwave use could harm health, so when she gave birth, she decided to no longer utilize this appliance. According to Kardashian: “After I gave birth, I conducted extensive health-related research and decided against my microwave when I learned of reports suggesting plastic containers leach toxins into food when heated; as well, I didn’t want something being heated back up when I wasn’t around”.
Kardashian caused controversy when she revealed she co-sleeps with her children. Speaking during an interview for “The Skinny Confidential” podcast, she talked about its benefits – “it is something mammals have done since time began!” She went on to mention there being no set limit when it comes to co-sleeping children, adding “each one is unique.”
Megan Fox
Megan Fox revealed in 2014 that she wanted her children to watch more movies instead of television programs, explaining: “I do let them watch movies; however, no television.” With movies, there’s usually a beginning, middle, and end – creating linear stories with clear narrative arcs; something TV doesn’t offer as effectively. I find movies more educational as opposed to just sitting down in front of it nonstop.”
Fox made headlines again when she allowed Noah, her two-year-old, to wear girls’ clothing for the first time at age two. Talking with Glamour magazine, Fox revealed this decision was initially controversial but eventually accepted by her and Noah themselves. According to Glamour magazine’s report at that time, Fox explained: a variety of books covering transgenderism were bought – some written by transgender children themselves while other simply spoke about being male but wearing dresses so one may express themselves through clothing as desired by each parent.”
Madonna
Madonna follows a strict rule when it comes to keeping her room tidy. In 2005, she shared with USA Today how she motivated Lourdes, her daughter, to pick up clothes she left lying around the room: “We take all her clothing and put it into a bag; she then needs to earn all her belongings back through being neat,” according to Madonna. When that failed to do the trick, she wore the same outfit every day until Lourdes learnt her lesson!
Lourdes told Interview Magazine that Madonna wasn’t exactly easygoing. She noted how Madonna is not giving any handouts despite their fortune: “No handouts in my family,” Lourdes noted, stating her mother saw many other famous children’s children and thought: ‘This won’t happen with mine.”
Lourdes noted Madonna was often too controlling of them both, and thus, she needed to become independent as soon as she graduated from high school. “Paying for things gives your parents leverage over you; my mom was such a control freak!” Lourdes commented. “So it was essential that as soon as high school ended, I became independent from both of them.”
